Dubai Gold, Coir Kerala, exhibition view, 2020, after the butcher, Berlin

The exhibition Dubai Gold, Coir Kerala brings together for the first time three video works shot in the South Indian state of Kerala in 2017 and 2018.

The first room shows the two videos Dubai Ports World Kochi (2018) and Dubai Gold and Diamonds (2018). They examine the relationship between Kerala and the Arab Gulf states and document sites in Kerala where this connection is visible. The third video Coir Kerala (2019) follows the local subject of processing coconut fiber (coir) into ropes in village cooperatives. The installation Coir Gate (2020) is made of this local coconut fiber rope and marks the passage to the video´s sceening room.
The banquet chairs in the exhibition go back to the long-term project Dubayyland (2009-2015).
