Caves and Rocks of Sicily

Caves and Rocks of Sicily
23 May – 6 July 2025
Solo exhibition with excursion program
L‘ Ascensore, Palermo

The long-term project Caves and Rocks of Sicily (since 2022) explores humanity’s relationship with the natural environment along the complex cultural history of Sicily and how it connects to the island´s caves and diverse geology.

The exhibition at L‘ Ascensore in Palermo features the photo series Caves (2022-2025) and Rocks (2024-2025) as well as the installation Traces (2025), which consists of rocks collected in Sicily. The three works move between excavation and extraction — the hollowing out of rock and the removal of minerals through natural processes as well as human intervention. The exhibition’s program included two excursions inviting guests to the Molara Cave Reserve near Palermo and to the Mineralogical Museum in Caltanissetta.

The project was developed in cooperation with Mario Margani and Garage Arts Platform, Enna and with the support of geologists, speleologists, and nature reserves in Sicily.
