Lawrence (detail), 2007, slide projection
The installation The Dreamer Whose Dreams Came True (2007/08) is based on the British war hero Lieutenant Colonel T.E. Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia. The central slide projection Lawrence (2007) reproduces a short film sequence from Lawrence of Arabia (1962, David Lean) broken down into 40 stills. In the movie the scene marks the high point of T.E. Lawrence’s war maneuvers against the Ottoman Empire, followed by the protagonist’s psychological dissolution.
The installation’s arrangement refers to the composition of a tomb: Pedestals, grave decoration, heroic depictions and memorabilia form a portrait of the deceased and his legend.
